Welcome
Croeso
There has been a mill on this site for approximately 400 years, although the building was converted to its current residential use in the 1970s by the Davies family, many of whom still live very locally and farm the fields surrounding The Mill.
The Mill is situated on a very quiet road in the Welsh Marches, in the hamlet of LLoyney, approximately 3 miles from Knighton (Tref y Clywdd, or the town on the Dyke), and is surrounded by open moorland, deep valleys, interesting small towns and many fascinating castles. The River Teme, which is the border between Wales and England, is about 100 yards from the Mill, and is the nearest river now that the Mill leat has been filled in. Lloyney has no services of its own with the exception of the Lloyney Inn, which lies opposite The Mill, and is open for food and drink every evening except Mondays. In Knighton there are many shops and most services - chemist, G.P., small supermarkets, butchers and bakers to name but a few. For those more interested in art or antiques there are antique shops and a gallery, and for those looking for a more relaxing break, a beauty salon.
If you are interested in wildlife, the area is an excellent place to view buzzards and other raptors; a pair of red kites nest nearby. There is also a red kite feeding station at Gigrin Farm near Rhayader where you can see lots of kites really up-close. A host of smaller birds abound, and a pair of kingfishers patrol the river banks. Woodland walks are plentiful, and the indigenous flora is largely undisturbed once off the beaten track.
If you are keen to feel the earth under your feet, we are adjacent to the Jack Mytton Way, which leads up to (or down from) the long distance footpath along Offa’s Dyke. About a mile from The Mill, Glyndwr’s Way, another long distance path, runs over hills in another direction. If cycling is more your thing, the Teme Valley offers a reasonably flat and interesting cycle route, and there are smaller roads locally which take you even further away from the traffic. More challenging terrain takes you up onto the moors & forests and over to Newtown for a slightly longer run.
We offer bed and breakfast (and evening meals on Mondays if booked), in 4 rooms, and can provide packed lunches and free pick up services to and from the railway station at Knucklas and from the nearest point on Offa’s Dyke or Glyndwr’s Way.
More details about the accommodation, the services and places of local interest can be found on this website. You can contact us by telephone, email or letter, and we look forward to welcoming you to our home and to Wales in the near future.
Please note that no smoking is permitted inside The Mill in any of the rooms.
